[...] Perhaps Bill with his access to nearly every desktop in the world and his wallet bursting with billion dollar notes could significantly change the world and make it better but I don’t read Bill’s blog (because he doesn’t have one) and I doubt if he had one he’d be linking to potential competitors, giving kudos to clever technologies no matter who made them or responding to comments. Scoble does all this and still does his day job. I don’t know was it Scoble’s influence or just a seachange in Microsoft but I can start to see humanity in Microsoft now. It is slowly becoming a company with a sense of community compared to the old Beast of Redmond persona it had. Even if Scoble didn’t have anything to do with this he has highlighted the changes and as his recent podcast with Tom Raftery showed he isn’t afraid of speaking out against evil deeds done by Microsoft.
(Tom) Raftery and (Robert) Scoble

I know Tom from a couple of years ago when his business developed an application for a project I was managing - he was a good guy to deal with. And he's an active blogger and ITCork head as well.

[...] In my recent podcast with Robert Scoble, one of the issues I raised with him was how much easier text blogs are to index for a search engine, than are podcasts or videoblogs. Robert agreed that this was the case but he made the point that search engines are using link text and the text surrounding the links to podcasts and videoblogs as a means to indexing their content - not ideal but it’s a start.
Darren - the video blog can be very interesting - it is a great way to get an insight into the faceless corporation that is microsoft. It does a tremendous job of humanising the company and it is far easier to get some concepts across (application UI, map flythroughs, etc) in a video.

Michele, thanks - I'll take the bandwidth discussion offline.

Tom, that was fascinating. Thank you so much for this. What I really took away from this piece was when he said, "blogging is the world's best relationship-building device I've ever found." I concur. I "meet" so many fascinating and smart people this way (including yourself), and even sometimes get the privilege to meet them in person.

And I enjoyed learning about his video blog where he pops into offices of Microsoft employees and talks with them about their ideas and projects. There must be some good stuff in there. I'll have to check it out.
