Aer Lingus and punctuality!

Punctuality and Aer Lingus

This is a photo I took in Zurich airport recently. The tv screen says Boarding at 15:00 while the clock on the right (correctly) shows the time as being 15:15. We didn’t get to board until nearly 15:25.

Even in Switzerland, where everything is supposed to run like clockwork, Aer Lingus manage to be late.

You wouldn’t mind so much if they only told us what was going on and when we were likely to be boarding.

Incredible.

Any questions for Mike Hudack?

Mike Hudack is the founder and the CEO of video sharing service blip.tv which I reviewed here.

I’m interviewing Mike this Monday evening (7th Aug 2006) for a PodLeaders podcast. We will be talking about blip.tv, the video sharing space in general blip.tv’s recent CNN deal, digital media in general and anything else that may arise in the questions!

As always, if you have questions you’d like me to put to him, feel free to leave them in the comments and I’ll put them to him.

Tom Raftery is on Bad Behaviour!

I see Michael Hampton has released the latest version of his Bad Behaviour plug-in for WordPress. Bad Behaviour is a plugin for:

blocking malicious activity, including blog/wiki spam, e-mail address harvesting, automated cracking attempts, and more. It does all of this looking only at the HTTP request headers; for POST data, the content of the spam is not analyzed at all

I have been using Referrer Karma for this previously and it has proven quite useful. I’m going to try Bad Behaviour for a time now and see which of the two I prefer. One point in Bad Behaviour’s favour is that it has an admin page accessible from within WordPress. With Referrer Karma you need to do your administration seperately.

Upsides of the controversy

Thanks to all the publicity generated by O’Reilly/CMP’s Cease & Desist letter, a Google search for “Web 2.0 Conference” now shows the IT@Cork Web 2.0 half-day Conference as the 4th placed result! Thanks guys!

If you are interested in going, register to go on the IT@Cork website on the conference page. It promises to be a fascinating series of talks.

Welcome to the blogosphere Adam!

I see Adam Beecher has started a blog - although, if you were to believe the tagline on his blog

This is not a blog.

I dunno Adam, it has a feed, it has the ability to add comments, it is run out of standard blogging software (WordPress).

If it looks like a duck…!

First Irish Podcast to Achieve Radio Syndication

I got an email this morning from Conn O’Muineachain from the An timeall podcast informing me that:

An tImeall, the daily podcast in the Irish language, today becomes the first independent Irish podcast to cross-over to traditional radio, as it begins a syndicated run on Galway city’s college community station, Flirt FM. The 15 minute show will air each weekday at 5:30pm…

An tImeall is published at imeall.blogspot.com. It was the first podcast in the Irish language, and one of the first in Ireland. It’s mission is to serve the worldwide community of Irish speakers and to encourage the development of online networks to promote the language. Over 120 episodes have been produced since last July, and last month the site was honoured for it’s use of Irish at the inaugural Irish Blog Awards.

Flirt FM is the community radio station for the student population of Galway city’s two third level colleges. It was established in 1995. Flirt FM’s new summer schedule starts today and further details can be found at flirtfm.org.

This is great news for Conn, who has been tireless in his blogging and podcasting, for the Irish language and for podcasting in Ireland - this is another validation of the medium.

Well done Conn - couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!
